How to look after your Barbour Clothing
How do I clean my Barbour waxed jacket?
In order to remove mud, or dirt, or to clean marks form the inner lining Barbour recommend sponging with cold water only. Do not use soaps or detergents, as these will affect the performance of the wax finish. If detergent is used and damage is caused to the waxed surface, your jacket will not be waterproof and any subsequent reproofing would not be possible.
You can soak your jacket in water, as long as it is cold water only, no damage should be done.
Once you have removed as much of the dirt as possible, your jacket should be hung outside on a clothesline to dry naturally. Do not put your jacket onto a direct heat source.
Once dry, your jacket should be reproofed with Thornproof Wax Dressing to restore the waterproofing.

How often should I reproof my Barbour wax jacket?
Barbour recommend that you reproof your jacket at least once every year to keep it fully waterproof. Depending on the amount of use of the jacket gets, and how it is stored, this may need to be increased. If you notice that there are dry patches appearing then you should treat these areas immediately, once the wax starts to dry out all over the jacket, it should be fully reproofed.
We are able to provide the Thornproof Wax Dressing to use in reproofing, this is listed in the Accessories and Waxed Cotton Jackets sections of our site.
How do I clean my Barbour breathable jacket?
Each Barbour garment has a label attached showing the washing instructions. Generally all Barbour waterproof breathable outerwear can be machine or hand-washed at 30°C.
Barbour recommend that you use non-biological washing powders only and no fabric softeners as these prevent the durable water repellent treatment (DWR) from working effectively. The garments can be tumble dried at a low heat setting, but must be removed from the drum immediately the machine stops. Barbour recommend the use of NikWax Tech Wash and NikWax TX.Direct Wash-In for your breathable garments. NikWax products are available in the Accessories section of this site.
